Bird watchers have to a natural habitat, which the birds usually take in as their refuge as well as a dwelling place. Whether its a local park or any bird sanctuary or any other place you travel to. Check out some of the popular bird sanctuaries in India such as Bharatpur or Keoladeo Ghana National Park that is blessed with some of the most exquisite avifauna and a delightful sight for any bird watcher. Some of the major residents of Bharatpur sanctuary include 375 species of birds, numerous mammals and reptiles. With the arrival of winters this bird sanctuary becomes a major attraction among bird watchers because of the migratory birds, especially the Siberian Cranes.

Corbett National park is another bird hideout, especially when it comes to the avian treasures of the Himalayan region.Out of the 2,060 species and subspecies of birds recorded in the Indian subcontinent, over 600 species/subspecies of birds have been recorded from Corbett at one time or another. Among the migrants that may be seen at the river banks of Ramganga or along the streams are the Great Crested Grebe, White-Fronted and Greylag Geese, Bar-headed Geese and variety of Ducks, occasionally White Stork and the common Black Stork, variety of Plovers, Sandpipers and Snipe.

The Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is locate 20-km away from Kathamangalam, on the Kochi-Munnar road and is considered to be one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Kerala. The most notable of the indigenous birds found in this bird sanctuary are Malabar Grey-Horn Bill, Wood Pecker, rose winged And blue winged Parakeer etc. Rare birds like Ceylon Frog-Moth, Rose billed Parakeer etc are also seen over here. A boat cruise from Boothathenkeru to Thattekad is an unforgettable bird watching experience through the evergreen forests nesting migratory and indigenous birds.
